Bachelor thesis Cooperative designing
in a self-experiment.
Group project with Kim Heintzen.
Prof. Ursula Zillig, Prof. Annette Geiger,
Prof. Dorothea Mink and Joachim Baldauf.
‘antworten verantworten’ (responsibility for answers) by this title, I have teamed up with my good friend Kim to do the bachelor‘s degree. Together we set us out to find answers. Starting from the point of view that as a designer you have the responsibility about what you put out into the world. Not to ignore our values in the process of creating. To look closely at why we create things. There are not always clear answers for us — we are in a process, even now — in which we are seeking a deeper meaning.
‘Cooperative designing in a self-experiment’ is the subtitle of our project. Also sustainability as a way of working — we have removed ourselves from the normative working model. We have opposed it and defined for ourselves the conditions under which we work. Conditions that do not mean that you naturally exploit yourself. We decided how our work can fit into our lives, into what often gets short besides the bachelor‘s degree. We decided that teamwork for us means being able to say what you think — without appealing to each other‘s egos, and in this way to honestly support each other.
Our result is a collection as well as some photographs and short films.

business
(temporary shop)
Concept and realization.
Group Project, University of Arts, Bremen, Germany.

What is the value of a product if the price is not set? What are you willing to spend? For the first time, the temporary shop offered a sales area for specially designed ‘products’ and invited visitors to a critical examination of consumer culture and their own consumption needs. This project was established to initiate a redesign of the standardized forms of business and more sustainable consumption. The ‘products’ were able to be purchased for a donation, after covering all the expenses. All remaining income (a total of € 253, -) was donated to the organization ‘Pro Asyl’.

When I'm in a design process, I think specifically about certain people. It's about people from various social orders. It's about milieu and class. When we talk about class today, we are not only talking about economic issues, but also about different lifestyles and symbolic prestige. Different income levels shape the image of our society. Lennar and Viljam represent different parts of society, between which there is often a gap. Their story has existed for centuries and is richly reproduced in pop culture.
My examination of fashion and fashion-making is about symbolism, stereotyping, prejudices and the dissolution or mixing of these. It is clothing and looks that are characterized by showing the gap between modern and conservative people. Fashion as a space for the problems of our society and my reaction to them.
